JUDY FLANNERY DOCUMENTARY WINS AWARD
Judy Flannery
Judy's Time, the documentary about the late triathlete Judy Flannery, was among seven films taking top honors in the annual IDA Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards competition. Award presentations will be made on December 13th during the 18th Annual IDA Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards Gala Benefit at the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Theatre in Hollywood.

"Each of these films tells a compelling story about an important subject in a memorable way," says IDA President Michael Donaldson. "They were chosen by a jury of peers out of hundreds of artfully crafted films from every part of the world. The producers of these films have earned the respect and admiration of our members."

Documentary filmmakers and fans will be able to see the winning entries at DocuFest(tm) at the screening room of the Eastman Kodak Company (6700 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, Calif.) on Saturday, December 14th. Each winning entry will be shown and followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.

Judy's Time won the Short category for non-fiction films under 40-minutes in length. It was produced, written and directed by Erin Flannery for the University of Southern California Graduate School of Cinema-Television. The documentary is the story of Judy Flannery, a mother of five, who in mid-life transformed herself into a world champion triathlete. The film chronicles her discovery of her own strengths, her passionate pursuit of a goal, and the people she inspired before her tragic death at age 57.

The Judy Flannery Memorial Fund has been established to create financial scholarships for women in triathlon and duathlon world competition.  The Columbia Triathlon Association, producer of Judy’s favorite triathlon, The Columbia Triathlon make an annual contribution to the Fund, as a lasting tribute to our friend and fellow competitor from the region.
