We already know that the Maserati Quattroporte will be getting a smaller engine in order to reduce fuel consumption, which is something that is quite a trend nowadays. But while the Quattroporte’s competitors are making their vehicles longer, Maserati says that their sedan “will not get any bigger.”
“Even though our rivals are getting longer, we have to keep it as a sporty alternative,” said Fiat design boss Lorenzo Ramaciotti. The new model will be unveiled in 2012 and will be offered with a four-wheel drive system and stop-start technology, that will also help to reduce fuel consumption. Maserati’s goal is to reduce fuel consumption by about 15 percent. Under the hood Maserati will place downsized V6 and V8 engines, as well as an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox (also offered in the BMW 7-Series).
The new generation Maserati Quattroporte will take its design inspiration from the brand’s latest models, the GranTurismo coupe and convertible. On the exterior, the Maserati will receive a completely new design, but the current grille treatment will remain the same. The interior will get improved technology and a more luxurious treatment.
Engine: The top version of the Maserati Quattroporte will receive an improved version of the current 4.7-liter V8 engine, which delivers 440 HP. The engine will be mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Entry levels will obviously be on the less powerful side of the spectrum with a V6 engine. All models will be offered with a four-wheel drive system and stop-start technology.

2012 Maserati Quattroporte Baby
Among other projects in the medium and long terms presented at the recent Investors’ Day of the Fiat Group has also announced the creation of a new “baby” version of the Maserati Quattroporte, whose debut should take place in 2012. It will cost from 55,000 euros and will be placed on the market segment and as a direct competitor of BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class According to reports the basic platform will be the Chrysler 300C, but the look and spirit will remain as classics of the Trident.
The engine of the new Maserati V6 should be a family Pentastar similar to 3.6 to be installed on the next Jeep Grand Cherokee. But nothing negates the possibility that the technology can also be used Fiat Multiair. In any case, there is nothing certain yet, while chasing voices more or less reliable on the characteristics of this new small Maserati.
If engine and platform may be American, development and technical operations will be managed directly by Maserati plants ex-Bertone recently purchased by Fiat. Aesthetically, this car should make more aggressive lines and sports compared to the original Maserati Quattroporte.
The manufacturer’s intention is to return to the market for large luxury sedans, bringing Italy to the top of a field in which the cars of several German companies for a long time act as real dominatrixes supreme.
