About 2 years ago our chief Ferrari mechanic, Eric Sanders, was searching for a machine to test the ignition system of a particularly recalcitrant Ferrari we had in our shop. His search led him to King Electronics that manufactured an appropriate test bed. Unfortunately the King owner had recently passed away and manufacturing had ceased.
Fortunately one of our long time clients, Harold Williams, agreed to get involved and see the project fully developed. As an owner of multiple vintage Ferrari classics, Harold knew the end result could help keep his prized possessions running at peak performance. Mr. Williams had the resources to continue and purchased the company. Although the first King design was inferior, Mr. Williams in collaboration with Eric introduced some innovations that turned the machine into an effective tool with great results. The first machines were released this past Summer and shortly thereafter Eric received his own system.
Testing distributor and ignition systems requires extremely precise instruments that synchronize the ignition points, pick ups, verify spark timing and ignition curves as well as verify the integrity of bushings and bearings. This new test bed accomplished all those with exceptional feedback for precise adjustments.
Since its introduction The Auto Gallery have used the equipment to solve electrical issues on multiple vintage Ferrari motors. The oscilloscope output enables us to analyze very specific data on the entire ignition system. For example, a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC which has twin distributors. Although running fairly well, the owner agreed to analyze and repair both distributors and was surprised to find significantly more power and smoothness. Another satisfied customer thanks to the skill and dedication of Eric and our entire staff of factory-trained technicians. Give us a call if you have a mechanical or electrical problem or for expert maintenance on your vintage or late model Ferrari or Maserati. Ask for Eric... he really knows his stuff.
