The 2011 LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid provides drivers with the opportunity to indulge in an unmatched blend of premium features, leading edge technology and the best fuel economy of any luxury sedan on the market.
The LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid immediately stands out from the midsize luxury crowd with its signature Lincoln design elements including the split-wing grille and wide, horizontal taillamps that are fully integrated into a cohesive whole.
Lincoln’s designers have continued the luxury theme inside with an impressive list of standard features. The seating surfaces for up to five occupants are covered in a buttery-soft leather from Scotland’s Bridge of Weir. These hides are unembossed, allowing the natural grain to come through, and they are tanned in a chromium-free process that is significantly more environmentally friendly, and also allows them to be easily recycled.
Drivers and passengers are sure to remain comfortable no matter what the outside conditions, thanks to standard heating and cooling for both front seats. The thermally controlled seats also allow the automatic climate control system to operate more efficiently, since air temperature doesn’t need to be regulated as closely. The front seats also feature 10-way power adjustments and with two memory settings for the driver’s seat. Complementing the leather surfaces is genuine wood trim on the dashboard and doors with a choice of Olive Ash or Walnut Swirl veneers. Noise levels are kept to a minimum as well thanks to Lincoln’s Quietcraft interior, which employs thick acoustic glass in the front side windows and layers of sound absorbing and sound deadening material to keep out all unwanted noise.
Lincoln provides its drivers with leading-edge technology including the SYNC® system as standard. SYNC allows drivers to pair their phones and media players via wireless Bluetooth® or wired through a USB or auxiliary input jack. Drivers can then use SYNC’s industry-leading voice control system to make and receive calls or select the music they want to listen to while keeping their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road for maximum safety and control. Drivers can also use SYNC to easily get traffic reports, turn-by-turn directions, personalized news and weather and vehicle health reports.
Speaking of safety, the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid includes dual-stage front, two-row side-curtains, front-seat side-impact and driver’s knee airbags in the event of an accident, and SYNC will automatically notify first responders if they are deployed. An available Blind-Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert takes the worry out of backing out of parking spots and helps drivers avoid collisions in the first place, and the standard AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control with brake-actuated traction control keeps the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid ready for whatever comes at you.Since younger, inexperienced drivers are more likely to have accidents, the standard MyKey™ system allows parents to program maximum speed and audio system volume, and it also provides for extra alerts for seatbelt use and at various speed intervals.
For 2011, the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid standard amenities list is augmented with Ford’s award-winning second generation hybrid technology as standard equipment, making it an ideal choice in an era of steadily rising fuel prices. Primary power comes from an all-aluminum 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that puts out 191 hp. The heart of the vehicle’s extraordinary fuel efficiency is the integrated power-split hybrid transmission. In addition to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, a pair of electric motors provides power at speeds up to a best in class 47 mph with the engine off.
Power for the motors comes from an advanced nickel-metal hydride battery integrated into the trunk. When coasting or braking, the motors turn into generators that recapture energy to charge the battery for later use. When the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid comes to a stop at traffic signals, the engine also shuts off, eliminating the waste of fuel and excess emissions that result from idling.
The engineers have optimized every aspect of the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid to minimize energy waste including an electric power steering system that provides assist instantly when needed without sacrificing steering feel.
Since driver behavior can have even more impact on fuel efficiency than the powertrain, Lincoln provides standard tools to help drivers save gas in the LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid. The exclusive SmartGauge system features a pair of 4.3-inch high-resolution displays flanking the speedometer. These displays can be reconfigured to provide more or less data to keep drivers informed and help coach them toward greater efficiency.
Information such as battery state of charge, overall and detailed power consumption, instantaneous and average fuel economy and overall efficiency are displayed as a driver’s guide. The efficiency display features leaves that grow or fade away based on short-term driving behavior, and flowers that sprout based on long-term efficiency. This data provides the driver with at-a-glance feedback about how they are doing. By the time a driver earns all five available long-term flowers, he or she could save almost 200 gallons of gasoline and two tons of CO2.
Despite the long list of standard equipment, the 2011 LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid starts at a very reasonable $34,645. It also won’t cost the owner much to operate after leaving the showroom thanks to its best-in-class EPA fuel economy ratings of 41 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. The 2011 LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid is luxury at its smartest.
