The Jaguar XJ (starting at $73,700 MSRP) is available in six distinct variants that present Jaguar owners with an array of performance and luxury choices. The sporting XJ, XJ Supercharged and XJ Supersport all provide the hallmark personal luxury synonymous with the Jaguar brand, while the XJL Portfolio, XJL Supercharged and XJL Supersport all cater to rear-seat passengers with a longer wheelbase for greater legroom.

 

While the XJ shares its name with four and a half decades of Jaguar cars it succeeds, the XJ is a luxury car for the 21^st century. It is the clearest representation of the design ethic set forth by Design Director Ian Callum for the future of Jaguar. Natural light floods the cabin, allowing the XJ to provide passengers with a sense of openness and space, yet the overall design retains a sleek, coupe-like profile that calls the car’s namesake immediately to mind.

 

Under its lithe bodywork lies a completely modern architecture. A lightweight aluminum structure which is 50 percent constructed from recycled materials, reduces the car’s overall weight and helps provide significantly improved efficiency. Both missions help the XJ to minimize its carbon footprint. The weight savings also contribute to the car’s amazing performance and agility, as do the most advanced, efficient and powerful Jaguar powertrains ever built. New winged headrests and footrests offer rear seat opulence, and the front passenger seat can be stowed in the forward position for much greater rear seat room.

C-Level passengers will appreciate the long-wheelbase XJL Portfolio model and its new ‘Executive Pack,’ which re-constructs the rear seating area into a briskly paced mobile office, thanks to fold-down business trays, as well as a rear sunblind that activates electronically for increased privacy. Upgraded carpet, a wood and leather heated steering wheel, gloss wood veneers and chrome mirror housings are all a part of the XJL Portfolio with the Executive Pack.

New interior color combinations are also on the docket for 2012. The XJ features a Jet/Ivory color option on the Portfolio trim level, which provides ivory seating surfaces with contrasting Jet stitching, piping and upper surfaces. The suedecloth headliner is available in either Jet or Ivory.

 

For 2012, every XJ is available with the Illumination Package, which is derived from the standard feature on the Supersport models. The package provides an illuminated truck latch, front and rear air vents, and sill plates that illuminate when the doors open.
