Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Nissan Titan
Every job has a proper tool that helps make the work easier. But there is one tool that is universal for every tough job – a full-size pickup. Although there are other full-size pickup choices out there, not all full-size pickups have the muscle, style and innovative features that the Nissan Titan pickup can deliver.
The 2012 Nissan Titan (MSRP $27,410) offers truck buyers a machine that balances the brute strength and durability of a no-compromise work truck with the style and conveniences of a modern luxury SUV at an extremely attractive base price.
The 2012 Nissan Titan is available in either a King Cab or Crew Cab, two wheelbases, three bed lengths and four trim packages: S, SV, PRO-4X and SL (Crew Cab only). New for 2012 is the Sport Appearance Package available on King Cab and Crew Cab SV models, which includes features like 20-inch alloy wheels, a unique grille, body-colored bumpers, special black step rails, embroidered seats and sporty white gauge faces.
The Titan S receives standard equipment like 18-inch wheels and seating for six with a 40/20/40 split front bench seat. SV models add 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome bumpers, full power accessories, cruise control and Remote Keyless Entry.
The PRO-4X Package includes 4WD as standard equipment, and also features special off-road specific items like an electronic locking rear differential, Rancho shocks, lower final gear drive ratio for better crawling on the trail, additional skid plates, unique, off-road designed 18-inch alloy wheels and massive BF Goodrich Rugged Trail P275/70R18 tires. On the inside, the PRO-4X stands apart with white gauge faces, embroidered seats and unique red stitching.
The Titan SL maxes out the standard options list with features like 20-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control with in-cabin micro filter, leather upholstery, power adjustable pedals, power folding heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a Rockford Fosgate 10-speaker stereo with Bluetooth integration, XM Satellite Radio and available Nissan Navigation system.
To match its namesake, every Titan model features an all-aluminum 5.6-liter V8 brimming with muscle to the tune of 317 hp and 385 lb/ft of torque. All this power enables the Titan to tow a maximum of 9,500 pounds. Every Titan is equipped standard with a five-speed automatic transmission, is available in either 4x2 or 4x4 models (PRO-4X models are exclusively 4x4).
The Titan stands above the rest of the full-size pickup crowd for several reasons, but one of the most significant is its outstanding value through delivering a host of features not found on other trucks.
Take for instance the Utili-Track Bed Channel System – the only bed-mounted, five-channel cargo system with removable heavy-duty cleats rated at 200 pounds to secure even the heaviest loads. To accommodate different size loads, accessories like dividers, extenders, sliding cargo trays, bike racks and storage units are also available from Nissan.
The high-wall bed design in the King Cab measures 79.1 inches with the Crew Cab measuring 67.3 inches. For the ultimate in payload capacity, the Crew Cab SV Long Wheelbase delivers an 87-inch bed; the longest bed in its class. On SV, PRO-4X and SL models, a bedside locking storage bin near the tailgate can hold items like ratchet straps, gloves, rope and any other accessories you need to get the job done. And in order to help make opening and closing the tailgate easier, a dampened tailgate assist feature is also available. Top payload capacity tops 2,000 pounds.
To help protect the bed from scratches and corrosion, the Titan offers the very first, factory-available spray-on bed liner that is thinner than aftermarket solutions to better preserve the original bed dimensions. And unlike aftermarket bed liners, the Titan bed liner is covered by the Nissan warranty.
Inside, the Titan is refined and spacious, and can be equipped with either bench seats or captains’ chairs. A multitude of large storage bins with hanging file folder capability and dividers for pens, business cards and maps help the Titan function as a mobile office. The overhead console adds even more storage, and also contains the optional rear-seat, eight-inch fold-down monitor DVD Entertainment System with two wireless headphones on select models.
A long list of standard safety features on the Titan include four-wheel disc Antilock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Traction Control System and the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System.
