HCWS’ annual concert fundrasier “Gimme Shelter”

HCWS’ annual concert fundrasier “Gimme Shelter” on May 28, got a breezy start, cooling off the guests at Lake Las Vegas.  97.1′s jazz afficionado, Ric Gould hosted the evening, introducing the night’s entertainment.

’Arms of America’ the U2 coverband opened the concert on the floating stage on the lake. The wind swirled as “Bono” sang “Beautiful Day”.  Another U2 favorite, “Walk Away” sounded so much sweeter to the crowd enjoying the evening, knowing that dogs and cats would be the beneficiaries.

The main act featured Grammy Award winner Skip Martin (a lead singer from Kool and the Gang).  Skip’s band of sharp-dressers changed their uniform look when the guitarist’s hat blew into Lake Las Vegas.  Skip showed his range starting with an instrumental flowing into vocals.  Later “Ladies Night” got the crowd dancing.

Both bands brought fans from all over the Las Vegas valley.

Local fan Charles East was enjoying the night with his lovely lady.  Charles was not familiar with HCWS before spotting the event in a local newspaper, but the booths near the concert stage promoted HCWS’ worthy cause.

Our hope at HCWS is that the U2 song, ’streets have no name’ will no longer be a brutal reality for dogs and cats.

The 3rd Annual Gimme Shelter Concert to help Heaven Can Wait Animal Society raise much needed funds so we can continue our efforts to stop pet overpopulation in the Las Vegas valley was a huge success.  Our thanks to everyone who supported the event with your attendance or by volunteering.
