Vehicle Profile: The 2011 Dodge Durango CrewLux
The Dodge Durango greets the 2011 model year with a sleek redesign, a powerful V6 and a feature-laden CrewLux trim that brings the seven-passenger SUV to the top of its class.

While the full-size sport ute is still undeniably bold, Dodge has taken a more refined, more sophisticated approach to designing this year’s Durango (MSRP starting at $29,195), which is available in Express, Heat, Crew, R/T, CrewLux (MSRP $38,815) and Citadel models. It’s flat out handsome with a new unibody construction (25 percent stiffer than the outgoing model), soft lines and powerful, rugged front and rear fascia. Behind the imposing Dodge crosshairs, you’ll find the CrewLux outfitted with 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a power liftgate, SmartBeam™ headlamps, which automatically adjust highbeam brightness in the presence of oncoming traffic, foglamps and chrome exterior mirrors and door handles.
Beneath a much softer and more stylish hood, the CrewLux gets the new 3.6-liter 24-valve Pentastar® V6 engine, along with a new partner in crime, a five-speed automatic transmission. With Variable Valve Timing (VVT), the lightweight aluminum Pentastar delivers best-in-class V6 driving range (up to 500 miles), along with a standard 290 hp and 260 lb/ft of torque. Also available is the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with an astounding 360 hp and 390 lb/ft of torque.
An all-new independent front and rear suspension setup delivers intuitive and precise handling while a mold-bonded front stabilizer bar, specially tuned shocks and springs and a powerfully reinforced, welded body ensure nearly a perfect 50:50 weight ratio and a well balanced, much improved ride. CrewLux trims also offer the all-weather traction and confidence of available all-wheel drive (rear-wheel drive is standard), as well as the ability to tow up to 6,200 pounds. Features like Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) come standard.
The Durango’s newly redesigned cabin is remarkably quiet and comfortable, thanks in no small part to its more refined ride and the smoothness offered by reduced rolling resistance tires. CrewLux trims get soft leather trimming over all three rows of seats, and heated buckets in the front, as well as a heated second row. The seats themselves, noticeably more comfortable, are made of an industry-first “recycled” polyurethane foam, and can be folded and arranged in up to 28 different ways.
The dash of the new Durango sports impressive craftsmanship and attention to detail. The new CrewLux gets the benefit of Media Center radio with SIRIUS Satellite Radio, along with a Garmin Navigation System and 6.5-inch touchscreen display, plus a nine-speaker, 506-watt premium audio system with auxiliary input jack. A 30GB internal hard drive also comes standard, and falls under the control of the intuitive uconnect™ Voice Command system with Bluetooth. Available uconnect™ Web brings high-speed Internet access to your Durango, turning it into a mobile hotspot.
The seven-passenger Durango makes parking easy with a rearview camera and a sonar-based ParkSense Rear Park Assist alert system. Available on the CrewLux are Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Path Detection, which warns of vehicles approaching from the side when you are backing up, frontal collision warning sensors and Adaptive Cruise Control, all of which utilize advanced sensors to provide an additional layer of protection and general driver awareness. Features like antilock brakes and rain-sensing windshield wipers come standard, as do active head restraints and front, side and full-length side-curtain airbags.
Steeped in newly refined style, enhanced performance and a slew of luxurious amenities, the new 2011 Dodge Durango CrewLux is simply better equipped to take on and conquer the road, the elements and the primary competitors in its class.
