The luxury vehicle landscape is tilting away from old excesses and toward a new frontier of sustainability. Sophisticated consumers now demand a vehicle that provides comfort, convenience and style in a package engineered with the latest fuel-saving technology, and the 2012 LINCOLN MKZ sedan delivers.
With an available hybrid model, the vehicle line is a class-leader in fuel economy. The LINCOLN MKZ is as advanced as it is elegantly designed with innovative technology like MyKey™ and Lincoln SYNC® offering consumers a customizable and fulfilling ownership experience. For 2012, the LINCOLN MKZ now incorporates integrated blind spot mirrors, as well as an available voice-activated navigation system and the programmable MyKey system.
Advanced drivetrain options lie at the heart of the 2012 LINCOLN MKZ (MSRP $34,645), starting with a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine with 263 hp and 249 lb/ft of torque. The engine is coupled to a six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission and can be had in either front- or all-wheel drive configurations. In its most efficient form, the 3.5-liter V6 is capable of up to 27 mpg highway on Regular grade Unleaded gasoline.
The LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid utilizes advanced, second-generation hybrid technology to best its closest competitor, the Lexus HS 250h, by four mpg combined and six mpg in the city. A 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine provides up to 156 net hp and 136 lb/ft of torque at just 2,250 rpm. The engine, battery and electric motor configuration allows the vehicle to travel up to 47 mph on all-electric power, which helped earn the powerplant the honor of being one of Ward’s “10 Best Engines” in 2010.
The LINCOLN MKZ Hybrid also comes standard with the helpful SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide system, which helps coach drivers toward the most fuel-efficient driving possible. As the driver increases driving efficiency, virtual flowers grow and blossom on the vehicle’s color LCD screen nestled in the instrument cluster. All told, the vehicle is capable of up to 41 mpg city and 36 mpg highway.
Lincoln knows that modern buyers demand unparalleled levels of technology from their vehicles, and the company’s engineers have built the LINCOLN MKZ with a host of cutting-edge systems designed to seamlessly integrate with buyers’ lives. Every model comes standard with Lincoln SYNC - a comprehensive technology suite that includes Bluetooth® calling, audible text messages and MP3 information capability, as well as an informational Vehicle Health Report and 911 Assist™. Buyers can also take advantage of SYNC with Traffic, Directions and Information. Using state-of-the-art voice-recognition software, the system works with GPS data provided by any Bluetooth-connected phone to provide personalized traffic reports, turn-by-turn directions and even news, sports and weather reports.Buyers who opt for the Voice-Activated Navigation System will also enjoy HD Radio as well. The system automatically picks up and provides high-quality audio and information from any station that broadcasts in high definition. Drivers simply tune their stereos to their favorite station and enjoy.
Lincoln is committed to safety in every way, and for 2012, the LINCOLN MKZ comes standardwith an aid designed to give parents with young drivers a helping hand. Lincoln MyKey™ is a programmable key that allows parents to limit certain vehicle features including speed and audio volume. The vehicle may also be programmed to provide speed-warning chimes at various intervals, encourage the use of seatbelts and supply earlier low-fuel warnings.
In addition to MyKey, the LINCOLN MKZ offers a variety of passive and active safety features including AdvanceTrac® stability control, Personal Safety System™ and SOS Post-Crash Alert System™. The vehicle’s advanced stability control is capable of actuating the brakes at specific wheels to keep the sedan on course, helping to prevent collisions before they can occur. In the event of an accident, the Personal Safety System™, including dual-stage front airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, seat position sensing and crash severity sensing, all coordinate to keep occupants safe. Finally, the SOS Post-Crash Alert System automatically flashes the turn signals and sounds the horn to alert passers-by.
The LINCOLN MKZ offers buyers a well-appointed cabin with a focus on quiet, confident driving. Features like a laminated acoustic windshield, superior precision body sealing, an acoustic headliner, foam-filled body cavities and a layer of sound dampening material along the entire floor are part of the Lincoln Quietcraft™ interior that helps keep wind, engine and road noise at bay. Additionally, the interior is trimmed in high-quality Bridge of Weir leather including the actively heated and cooled seats. The Scottish leather is milled for 12 hours and remains unembossed for a supple, natural feel. Befitting a vehicle with a mind toward sustainability, the leather isn’t treated with harmful chromium as with most tanning processes. This allows for easier recycling at the end of the vehicle’s lifecycle.
The LINCOLN MKZ is “Most Dependable Entry Premium Car” two years in a row according to J.D. Power and Associates. For 2012, the LINCOLN MKZ is the new face of luxury sedans. With its efficient drivetrain options, impressive safety and convenience technologies and exquisite interior appointments, the vehicle is proof that luxury, quality and sustainability are no longer mutually exclusive.
