How much “new” can you find in the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedans? The restyled front end barely hints at the magnitude of the changes under the metal. New engines, a new interior and 13 new major standard features keep the 2012 C-Class Sedans at the top of their games.
Mercedes-Benz designers and engineers will tell you that changes to the restyled exterior and redesigned interior of the 2012 C-Class Sedans involved some 2,000 parts. What matters most is how all those pieces come together to make the 2012 C-Class Sedans such exemplary sport/luxury machines with a look and feel that leave no doubt about their pedigree.
Up front, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedans convey a sportier air, thanks to the new bumper, grille, headlights and aluminum hood. Behind the classic Mercedes grille, you’ll find two new engines for 2012, along with a new transmission. The new powerplants preserve the wide choice available in the line while making the C-Class more exciting to drive and more efficient as well. The opportunity to drive a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class begins with an MSRP of $34,800 for the new C250 Sports Sedan.
For another $420, you can opt for the 2012 C250 Luxury Sedan. Both versions are agile to drive, and both come with renowned Mercedes-Benz luxury in the standard features and options. The difference lies in chassis tuning and subtle design differences. “Sport” emphasizes handling agility a bit more than “Luxury,” which skews to a ride that’s a bit softer in character.
You’ll recognize the C-Class Sports Sedan by its grille, which features two horizontal bars and puts a big Mercedes-Benz star in the center, like the brand’s coupes and sports cars. The Luxury Sedan wears a more traditional grille with three horizontal bars and a stand-up star ornament. The best way to determine which version feels right for you is by road testing both over the same route.
It’s what the C250 models share in common that adds new excitement and efficiency for 2012. An all-new, 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine combines the punch of 201 hp and 229 lb/ft of torque, the latter at a low 2,200 rpm and holding through 4,300 rpm. Channeled through a new seven-speed automatic transmission, those figures translate into the responsive feel of a V6, yet with impressive 31 mpg highway fuel economy. With a powerful midrange surge, super-smooth operation and zero-to-60-mph acceleration in just 7.1 seconds, the 1.8-liter turbo four will leave a powerful impression on you.
The second new C-Class engine, a 302-hp 3.5-liter V6, matches the output of some recent V8 engines. For 2012, it powers the C350 Sports Sedan (MSRP $40,575).
Do you want the enhanced all-season handling and traction of all-wheel drive? The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class obliges with the C300 4MATIC Sports Sedan (MSRP $38,020) and the C300 4MATIC Luxury Sedan (MSRP $38,430). Both get their motivation from a 228-hp 3.0-liter V6.
Few sedans in the world can run with the wickedly fun C63 AMG ultra-performance sedan (MSRP $58,930). A 451-hp 6.3-liter V8 catapults this car forward with ferocious velocity, and an optional AMG Development Package adds another 30 hp onto the fire. This fiery, hand-assembled V8 comes teamed with the AMG-exclusive MCT multi-clutch transmission. This fast-shifting, fully automatic unit allows manual shifting with steering wheel paddleshifters when you feel in the mood to take full control.
Step inside the 2012 C-Class and a blend of traditional and modern luxury will envelop you. The craftsmanship and level of finish quality remind you why Mercedes-Benz still leads the luxury category in these areas. On the “modern” side of the ledger, you’ll find the latest infotainment and connectivity features. The standard 5.8-inch center screen provides access to Bluetooth® hands-free phone operation and audio streaming while more audio choices come your way via the AM/FM/HD/weatherband head unit with CD drive and a USB port. Option packages let you take luxury and infotainment to higher levels and include the COMAND system.
The big news in Mercedes-Benz connectivity for 2012 comes with the new mbrace2 telematics system. Employing 3G network connectivity, mbrace2 offers more than 60 features in the categories of safety and security, navigation and destination, planning and convenience. You can access these services from within the vehicle or by using your iPhone or Android phone, or even through a personalized web portal. Mercedes-Benz Apps add features such as Facebook, Google, Yelp!, browsing and stocks.
Come in and see how the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans bring together a higher level of design, luxury, performance and connectivity.
