There are a lot of pretenders in the compact 4x4 SUV market. Many look the part of a rugged off-roader, but looks only go so far once you get off the beaten path. For those seeking a bona fide midsize 4x4 SUV with the same off-road heritage as the legendary Jeep Wrangler and every day comfort and convenience, the 2012 Jeep® Liberty Limited Jet Edition 4x4 is a perfect choice.
Every 2012 Liberty Limited Jet Edition 4x4 (MSRP $28,795) wearing the exclusive Jeep Trail Rated® badge passes a series of grueling tests to validate its off-road worthiness. Ground clearance, articulation, maneuverability, traction and water fording are all taken into consideration, and the Liberty Limited Jet Edition excels in every category.
At the core of what makes the 2012 Jeep Liberty Limited so capable off road are its two Jeep Trail Rated four-wheel drive system options – Command-Trac II® and Selec-Trac II®. The standard, next-generation Command-Trac II is a part-time 4x4 system that offers 2WD HIGH, 4WD LOCK and 4WD-Low (4LOW) range options, plus “shift-on-the fly” convenience.
Unlike other 4x4 SUVs, the Liberty Command-Trac system also features a Neutral mode that uncouples the driveshafts from the transfer case so the Liberty can be flat-towed behind another vehicle or motor home.
For a full-time, active on-demand 4x4 system, choose the Selec-Trac II system, which anticipates and prevents wheel slip by redirecting torque to each of the four wheels as needed. It enhances control, safety and traction, both on- and off-road.
To better deliver an optimum blend of off-road capability and on-road manners, the Liberty Limited Jet Edition features an independent front suspension system, a five-link, live rear axle suspension and rack-and-pinion steering.
Powering both legendary 4x4 systems in the Liberty Limited is a 3.7-liter V6 that turns out a robust 210 hp and 235 lb/ft of torque through a four-speed automatic transmission. In addition to fuel economy performance as high as 21 mpg highway, when properly equipped, the Liberty Limited can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Standard Hill-Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and a tire pressure monitoring system with individual tire pressure display enhance vehicle control and driver confidence.
The serious off-road chops of the Liberty Limited Jet Edition come with modern technology, comfort and amenities. The Liberty Limited Jet Edition is loaded with standard features, highlights of which include 20-inch aluminum wheels, unique exterior chrome trim, keyless entry, heated, power-adjustable front bucket seats with a Memory Package for seat, radio and mirror settings, leathery upholstery throughout, Uconnect® Voice Command with Bluetooth®, Bluetooth Streaming Audio and an eight-speaker premium Infinity audio system with CD player, SIRIUS/XM Satellite Radio, auxiliary input and steering wheel controls.
For an even more high-tech experience, the Liberty Limited Jet Edition is available with a Media Center 730N CD/MP3 touch-screen audio and navigation system featuring a DVD player and a 40GB hard drive.
Another option on the Liberty Limited – a feature you can only get in a Jeep – is the Jeep Sky Slider™ Full Open Roof, a full-length, power-operated canvas sunroof that opens front-to-back or back-to-front, and captures that open-air driving feeling. And whether you’re carrying a lot of cargo or just wanting to camp out under the stars inside your Jeep, the Liberty Limited Jet Edition features 60/40-split folding and reclining rear seats for 62.4 cubic feet of space along with a folding passenger front seat for additional room.
The Liberty Limited Jet Edition 4x4 comes equipped with all the latest safety features including advanced multi-stage airbags with rollover sensors (including front and rear side-curtain), Active Head Restraints, high-strength steel construction for better energy absorption, four-wheel Anti-lock Disc Brakes , Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, All-Speed Traction Control and Electronic Roll Mitigation. These occupant protection systems helped the Liberty earn a top rating of “Good” in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) frontal offset and roof strength tests.
For those who often like challenging terrain in a rugged, capable 4x4, yet still want a comfortable, practical every day-driving compact SUV, the 2012 Jeep Liberty Limited Jet Edition 4x4 is an ideal choice. No other compact SUV can offer 70 years of off-road heritage combined with a long list of standard features for such an affordable price.
