DHS seeking input for four-year report
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is seeking stakeholder input as the agency proceeds with its Quadrennial Homeland Security Review, a comprehensive examination that includes recommendations regarding the long-term strategy and priorities and guidance on the department’s programs, assets, capabilities, budget, policies and authorities.
“National dialogue sessions” are slated to be conducted via an online Web portal, giving stakeholders opportunities to add their perspectives and consider those submitted by others during a June outreach process in which leaders of more than 100 associations were asked to e-mail thoughts to DHS.
According to a notice published June 30 in the Federal Register – available online the Internet sessions are proposed for July 16-20, Aug. 13-17 and Sept. 17-21.
The notice, which cited the use of such social networking media as Twitter and Facebook as notification options, indicated that 50,000 responses are anticipated.
The review is to address five principal study areas: Counterterrorism and domestic security management; securing borders; smart and tough enforcement of immigration laws; preparing for, responding to and recovering from disasters; and maturing and unifying DHS.
Questions may be addressed by e-mail to QHSR@dhs.gov, while additional information is available by phone from Michael Galang at 202-282-9118 or online on the DHS Web site at www.dhs.gov/qhsr.
M&BSN commends DHS leaders for their continuing efforts to seek stakeholder input in development of priorities and strategies for the department.
