TIE Commerce
Halliburton Case Study
by Melinda Powers

Problem

How to reduce IT costs, improve data translation performance, and meet the current and future needs of e-Commerce.

Consideration

Halliburton is one of the world’s leading providers of products, services, and integrated solutions for oil and gas exploration. In an effort to reduce IT costs, Halliburton wanted to replace their mainframe EDI translator, at a reasonable cost, with a UNIX-based or NT-based solution. The solution would have meet both their current and future eCommerce needs. Halliburton’s evaluation criteria consisted of over 40 specific functional and technical requirements. The general criteria used in the evaluation process included:

• Must support current data translation methods, such as EDI, and emerging technology, such as XML
• Must facilitate a decrease in time for trading partner setups and map development
• Must have the ability to integrate with any application, specifically with SAP
• Vendor must demonstrate exceptional support capabilities

Solution

Halliburton selected TIE eVision because it met all of the general criteria, and a majority of the 40 specific functional and technical requirements. eVision’s intuitive GUI and SAP IDoc Importer provided Halliburton with an easy-to-use system. And-to-any mapping capabilities ensured that the system was flexible enough for future application integration efforts. Halliburton also cited eVision’s reasonable price and confirmation from several satisfied eVision users as important factors that made the purchase decision easier.

Results

Since implementing eVision, Halliburton has experienced an estimated annual cost savings of over $380,000. eVision’s powerful data translation capabilities enabled Halliburton to effortlessly transact business with over 50 trading partners, averaging 42,000 transactions per month. The costs for software execution and data storage have been significantly reduced, and the time to set up new trading partners and develop new maps has been cut in half. eVision’s flexibility also provided Halliburton with an invaluable integration tool during a SAP upgrade from 3.1i to 4.6c.
