Pickup Where It Left Off
A peek inside the 2010 Ford F-150.

The 2010 model year marks a series of milestones for Ford, not the least of which is the reinvigoration of the company’s flagship truck, the F-150. This year, Ford’s iconic pickup returns with even more innovation, style and strength than ever before, as well as an all-new high-performance model.

Arriving in nine Ford-tough models – ranging from the base XL to the top-of-the-line Harley Davidson Edition – and featuring Regular, Super and Crew cabs, the 2010 F-150 is, without question, back with a vengeance. This year’s model is more appealing than ever, combining exaggerated, powerful features with sleek, commanding styling cues.

Outside, the design is simple, yet striking. The oversized chrome grille sits prominently in the middle of the F-150’s athletic face, sandwiched between wraparound headlamps and available bumper-integrated foglamps. Available 20-inch polished cast-aluminum wheels set a solid base for a sleek body that features very little flare, and a whole lot of function. The frame itself is best in class; it’s made from innovative hydroformed steel to be stronger than any other truck in its segment, and it forms the unyielding backbone of Ford’s most recent F-150.

As always, the F-150’s true value comes in how it’s used, and this year’s model gives you more options than ever before. The exclusive, easy-deploying side steps and a tailgate step provide easy access to the F-150’s dynamic storage systems including up to an eight-foot box depending on the model. Once again, Ford’s truck provides a best-in-class payload capacity; new this year is an available stowable bed extender. It’s never been easier to store, load and haul.

The 2010 F-150 is remarkably powerful and surprisingly efficient. Ford’s latest comes powered by your choice of three engines, starting with a 4.6-liter V8 making 248 hp and 294 lb/ft of torque through a four-speed automatic. An upgraded 4.6-liter V8 adds an extra valve and boosts power to 292 hp and 320 lb/ft of torque through a six-speed automatic. Last, the F-150 features an available 5.4-liter V8 that generates an astounding 310 hp and 390 lb/ft of torque through the same automatic six. Ford’s innovative six-speed features a selectable Tow/Haul mode, which ensures quick and easy power delivery while towing heavy loads (the 2010 F-150 features best-in-class towing capacity – up to 17,000 pounds when properly equipped).

This year, the F-150’s brakes (massive four-wheel antilock with electronic brakeforce distribution) and shocks have been improved to reduce body lean and ensure exceptional stopping power and ride quality, particularly while towing. Ford’s available stability control and four-wheel drive systems provide surefooted traction and handling on difficult terrain while the electronic locking differential (standard on the FX4 model) locks up the rear axle to ensure unparalleled traction when you need it most. For trailering, Ford has integrated trailer sway and trailer brake control systems in order to provide greater, more confident management of whatever you’re pulling.

Inside, the 2010 F-150 features class-leading comfort and innovation, as well as some of the most advanced technology ever integrated into a pickup. SuperCrew models feature more useable cab space than any vehicle in the category and fill it with premium materials and vast, comfortable seating that has been ergonomically enhanced over last year’s model. Based on feedback from drivers, headrests have been re-engineered to be more comfortable and less cumbersome.

The cabin itself is remarkably quiet and modern, highlighted by a clean, modern design and conveniently oriented technology. Atop the new F-150’s sleek center stack is the available voice-activated navigation system featuring an integrated 10GB hard drive and real-time traffic information. The full-color screen also provides access to Ford Work Solutions, an ingenious series of tools––In-Dash Computer, Tool Link, Crew Chief, and Cable Lock––geared toward small business owners and contractors. Ford’s innovative and intuitive SYNC® system allows for the seamless integration and voice-activated control of Bluetooth phone and premium audio systems.

The year 2010 will also mark the introduction of a dynamic and exciting new F-150 model. The new F-150 Raptor SVT is a street legal, performance-based pickup inspired by the grueling cross-desert Baja rally races. In addition to aggressive, modern styling cues and colors, the Raptor will feature a boosted 5.4-liter V8 churning out upward of 320 hp, as well as specially tuned racing shocks. Look for the Raptor to hit dealerships sometime in early 2010.

With a starting MSRP of just $21,380, the Ford F-150 offers maximum value for today’s truck buyer. Seems like 2010 is looking like another banner year for the Ford F-150.
