Sean joined the car sales industry 8 years ago when he started at Earnhardt’s, and hasn’t left home since. Sean said he likes working for the Earnhardt company—and the family-- because of their reputation.
“They’re nice people. My managers are great. Plus our prices are always the lowest,” which is what makes his job so much more enjoyable, because he’s selling a product he loves. When asked what his dream car is, he immediately answered, an orange Dodge Challenger SRT, just like the one he drives to work. In fact, all of the cars Sean has ever owned are specifically from the Earnhardt Chrysler Dodge Jeep & Ram dealership. So who else would know his inventory better?
Along the way of his 8 years at Earnhardt’s, he took one year off from selling to work as a manager here at the Dodge store before returning to his roots. Thus began his streak as Top Salesman.
But here at the family owned Earnhardt dealerships, we are not just concerned about our sales, but our customer service as well. And it truly shows in our sales team. Sean said when he first meets a new customer, his main concern is finding common ground and discovering enough about his customers needs to best fit them with the right vehicle. And if his record says anything about his customer service, it’s that he cares about his customer’s needs. If you’re not convinced, here is a recent online review posted by an Earnhardt customer on February 14, 2012, about Sean & their Earnhardt experience:
Sophia M., from Chandler—“5 stars for Sean Plunkett! My husband just bought a Dodge Ram and loves it (mainly the price). This is the 4th vehicle we bought from Sean. Next week, I will be going back for a new Jeep for myself.”
Sean’s favorite part of the job is working with the whole Dodge team. He said he always wakes up every morning actually wanting to go to work. “It’s like hanging out with your buddies. It’s like a big family.”
But don’t be mistaken. Being a salesman isn’t easy. Sean said some of the more difficult aspects of the job are the long hours and that it can be easy to get stressed out if you aren’t careful. But he said the most important thing for a salesman to do is to remember that you are there to provide your customers a service. “You need to be courteous and give (your customers) a reason to trust you. They could go anywhere else, so you need to show them a reason to work with you.”
One of Sean’s not-so-secret tricks of the trade is to always dress comfortable. He likes to wear his Nikes under his business slacks to offer a level of comfort and be more relatable with his customers. In addition to dressing comfortably, one fun fact about Sean is that he always likes to match his shoes with his shirts. Don’t believe me? Next time you come in, take a look for yourself!
