Team Up with Friends in Texas
The Gulf Coast’s numerous clubs organize outings, parties and more.

Clubs and social organizations offer plenty of opportunities for members to explore new activities and make new friends. The Texas Gulf Coast has groups for all kinds of interests and hobbies, so see what’s happening in your neck of the woods.

Founded in 1957, the Audubon Outdoor Club (AOC) of Corpus Christi is committed to admiring and conserving the surrounding wildlife. The group owns five sanctuaries and supports other organizations and events such as the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory and the Hazel Bazemore Hawk Watch. Members participate in boat tours, lectures and more, enjoying the company of others who are interested in the area’s fascinating habitats. April bird walks in Blucher Park and annual events like the Corpus Christi Christmas Bird Count and Texas Butterfly Festival are always popular. On April 21, 2012, the AOC will be joining the Arkansas Bird & Nature Club at Magic Ridge Sanctuary for a day of exciting adventures. Learn more at www.ccbirding.com/aoc.

The Nave Museum, part of the Victoria Regional Museum Association (VRMA), is a place where art truly comes alive. The organization features a variety of collections by both Texas artists and international masters. As a member of the museum, you’ll get free admission, a newsletter subscription and invitations to all yearly events and member previews. Past exhibits include Co-Modify: Culture Lab Collective and Mel Chin: The Funk and Wag from A to Z. Visit the Nave Museum online at www.victoriaregionalmuseum.com.

No matter what your skill level, a ride with the Greater Houston Off-Road Biking Association (GHORBA) is always one to remember. Recent outings include Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, Huntsville State Park and the trails near Lake Bryan. The group has also taken trips to Mexico for Memorial Day riding excursions. Membership fees go toward opening, maintaining and building mountain bike trails in the Houston area, organized rides, skills clinics, the annual Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) and Short Track Series races and other fun events. Many bike shops in the region also offer discounts to GHORBA members. View the full calendar and photos from past trips at www.ghorba.org.

Whether you want to explore the outdoors with your neighbors or meet new art enthusiasts at the museum, the Texas Gulf Coast region has the perfect organization for you.
