THE BENEFITS OF THE TECHNOLOGY GOES HOME PROGRAM
By Tynaya Frasier & Kim Mitchell
The Technology Goes Home class changed my life forever because the quality of my homework is better now and I feel more confident in speaking my mind. I used to be very shy about speaking up but because I joined TGH it helped me gain my confidence. Not only has my participation grade gone up, but my homework quality grade has increased also. TGH computer program has helped me increase my typing speed from 10 words per minute to 30 words per minute.
I never thought that this class would have such an impact on my life. I have always gotten good grades but the TGH class turned me from a B student to an A student. Such a change from one class alone tells you that it is better to try things out than to sit back and watch people succeed and you don’t. I didn’t want to take the class when my mom told me about it but she wanted to, so I did. I really truly thought that it would be all talking and no action, which is very boring for me. But, on the very first day, I wanted to stay longer. Because of TGH, I will have a better future in technology.
I am the parent and I just loved what this program has done for my daughter and me. My child has a medical disability and since we have received this computer through the TGH program, we have found a web site for her condition. This has enabled her to get detailed information on her disability and to feel confident about herself. She will be speaking to her fellow classmates and teachers in her school about this disease to better educate them. I have become an active parent on the Sickle Cell Foundation Board at Children’s Hospital because of the information we have received through the use of the TGH computer.
I have seen a dramatic change in my daughter’s academic and her abilities on the computer. My child is now constantly using the computer writing poems and short stories that I never knew that she liked to do. Reading her poems takes my breath away. Every time we get on the computer, I think about the THG program and how it has helped me and my child understand the use of computer technology.
TGH has opened up the possibilities for a better future for my daughter and me. I am now seeking to go back to college and further my education so I could get a better paying job. I know how to use excel, power point, picture this publisher 2000 and various other applications thanks to the TGH in Lower Roxbury. I just want people to know that Nyvia Colon, representative for the Lower Roxbury TGH, goes way beyond her duties to help families as myself get the information they need to better themselves. The Technology Goes Home Program has conquered our fears in the usage of computers. Thanks TGH Family.
Thank you.
