Mayor Thomas M. Menino's "Evening on the Bridge 3.0" annual event committee kickoff breakfast took place at FleetBoston Financial this past month. More than 80 people attended in order to support and assist with the fundraising efforts of the City of Boston's and Boston Digital Bridge Foundation's event. Leading the way with a $25,000 donation and hosting the breakfast was Chad Gifford, CEO of Fleet Bank and Co-Chairman of the EOTB3.0 Event Committee.
Reverend Ray Hammond, Pastor of Bethel AME Church, also serves as a Committee Co-Chair and as Mayor Menino described "the event's spiritual guide." Ken Novack, Vice Chairman of AOL/Time Warner and a Committee Co-Chair, spoke about the evolution of technology and how important it is to continue efforts to bridge the digital divide.
Adreenne Law Hampton, TGH Coordinator in Grove Hall was the breakfast emcee and Shiv Balglobin, TB graduate and BDBF employee spoke extensively about the impact that technology training has had within his own life. Shiv is currently attending Wentworth Institute of Technology on a full academic scholarship.
The breakfast serves as a launch for the Evening on the Bridge event that takes place annually each September. The Evening on the Bridge is a unique community event that unifies business, government, community- based organizations and institutions that support the families and students which participate in and benefit from the programs of the Boston Digital Bridge Foundation. The event provides families who have graduated and participated in the Technology Goes Home and TechBoston programs an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments in expanding their employment opportunities, improving school grades and enhancing community collaboration. This year's event will be held on Thursday, September 25th in Franklin Park at 6 in the evening.
The "EOTB3.0" is underwritten by The Boston Foundation and FleetBoston Financial.
