FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. has opened two gasoline stations at its supermarkets in the Fort Wayne, Ind., area, according to a report in the local News-Sentinel.
Additional Kroger gas stations may eventually come to Fort Wayne, Kroger spokesperson Jeff Golc told the newspaper. "If there is an opportunity to expand our market, we will look at it," he said.
The chain operates 2,401 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 32 states under approximately two dozen banners, including Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, King Soopers, Smith’s, Fry’s and Fry’s Marketplace, Dillon, QFC and City Market. It sells gasoline at 177 supermarkets. In late January, Ralphs opened its first fuel center, located in Bakersfield, Calif.
The company also operates a total of 796 c-stores in 15 states. These stores include Kwik Shop, Loaf N' Jug Mini Mart, Quik Stop Markets, Tom Thumb Food Stores and Turkey Hill Minit Markets. Some 654 of the c-stores sell gasoline, accounting for approximately half of the store sales.
