ICIS-LOR U.S. Weekly Base Oil Prices
Oilspot News with FlashPoint partners with the leading source of accurate base oil price data

There are no regulated markets for these commodities in which the prices of transactions are reported. Pricing information therefore needs to be obtained journalistically by (mainly telephone) conversations with deal participants. Such a process requires highly experienced reporters with long term relationships with the market players. Information needs to be assessed and corroborated in order to identify the meaningful from the misleading.

In 1994 ICIS LOR was acquired by RBI part of the Reed Elsevier Group the domain of CNI and the Reed Chemical group. ICIS Senior Editors have in excess of 135 years of reporting experience and the Managing Editors alone in excess of 65 years petrochemical and oil editorial knowledge. Pricing information in physical or wet barrels has to be obtained directly from the market participants, a journalistic process of speaking to an appropriately large and representative sample of market participants in order to be able to gather and corroborate pricing information. ICIS Editors make in excess of 3,000 telephone calls per week on a global basis, and thus provide absolute competence in assessing the markets. The long-term relationships they develop with participants enable them to discriminate between meaningful and unreliable data.
