BOC's LoTOx Wins Kirkpatrick Award
System designed to help industries eliminate pollutants

MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- BOC's LoTOx NOx control system, designed to help industries eliminate smog-forming pollutants, has won the Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Award.

Chemical Engineering magazine grants the award every two years to honor outstanding chemical engineering technology that has been successfully commercialized through group effort.

"This is a tremendous honor for BOC and the team that developed and commercialized this system,” said Bob Ferrell, vice-president, LoTOx Business Development, BOC Process Gas Solutions. “Winning the Kirkpatrick Award is the highest achievement in chemical engineering. It validates our view that LoTOx is a world-class environmental technology capable of delivering great value to a broad base of global businesses."

"LoTOx has been commercialized for less than a year, and we are already experiencing significant industry acceptance," Ferrell added. "Winning the Kirkpatrick Chemical Engineering Award will enable us to participate even more effectively in the environmental market, providing a simple, cost-effective, and reliable NOx control solution."

LoTOx systems are already installed and operating in a variety of industries, including steel, power production and recycling. In addition, BOC has entered into marketing and licensing alliances with several companies that offer compatible emissions control technologies.

LoTOx is a patented end-of-pipe treatment system that uses ozone to selectively oxidize relatively insoluble NOx to highly soluble nitrogen oxide species that can be easily removed in a wet scrubber. LoTOx is capable of greater than 95 percent removal of NOx from flue gases.

Chemical Engineering magazine is published by Chemical Week Associates. Nominations for the Kirkpatrick Award are solicited from readers of Chemical Engineering, and from the nominee companies. The nominations are evaluated and
ranked by the heads of accredited chemical engineering departments at U.S. and European universities who serve as judges for the competition. Their decision on this year's winner of the Kirkpatrick Award was announced in the October issue of Chemical Engineering magazine.
