30 years ago, NAD (originally an acronym for New Acoustic Dimension) set out to create a new kind of audio company. We were a group of audio-industry veterans: manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and — above all — listeners. We were driven by passion for great sound and by the desire to cut through the marketing hype and over-elaboration that had become pervasive in the audio industry. We wanted to provide what people really wanted instead of what they were being sold. We want to make clear that every NAD component at every level is designed and manufactured for satisfying performance — for realistic, detailed, convincing reproduction of the original sound. To our minds, designing for maximum value almost always means achieving maximum real-world performance as well. For more information on NAD high performance products please visit www.nadelectronics.com.

NAD

NAD Electronics, the highly regarded manufacturer of high-performance audio/video components, has introduced a unique Upgrade Program enabling dealers and installers to offer custom configurations to owners of NAD’s high-value A/V products. Each Upgrade Module allows an owner to install one or more elements of NAD’s innovative new mechanical architecture, Modular Design Construction (MDC), intoselect NAD A/V Receivers and Preamp-Processors.

Developed exclusively by NAD, MDC provides numerous benefits and advantages. It greatly improves products’ performance, functionality and ease of use, while protecting them against premature obsolescence. It also simplifies product servicing, and enables NAD to more quickly bring to market new “advanced technology” features.

MDC updates NAD’s Building Block Concept, a powerful design approach the company pioneered more than 30 years ago. The Building Block Concept allowed NAD’s integrated stereos to accommodate more powerful amplifiers while retaining the preamp section of the integrated amp. MDC reinvents the concept by combining NAD’s traditional benchmark-performance pedigree with leading-edge, feature-driven technologies, yielding the critical operational functionality today’s video-centric world requires.

Kicking off the MDC Upgrade Program are four plug-in modules that add valuable features and capabilities while enhancing input and output connectivity. These first four modules cover digital audio and HDMI functions, component and analog video functions, and two-channel and multi-channel analog audio functions. Additional modules are planned.

The announced modules include two options for upgrading audio performance and two options for upgrading video performance. By giving our customers the option of spending only for those features they really want, the benefit is obvious. It also allows them to maintain their initial investment by upgrading to new technology at a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire receiver. Click here for more information.

NuVo

The NuVo Suites are Going Wireless

An exiting new addition to the NuVo line of distributed audio products is the NV-WCP Wireless Control Pad. Imagine having the complete menu browsing and metadata feedback that has been the hallmark of the NuVo Systems in the palm of your hand. That is what the Wireless Control Pad provides to the user.

The Wireless Control Pad communicates with a Coordinator using ZigBee based RF technology. Each NuVo System can support up to five Wireless Control Pads through a single Coordinator. The Coordinator plugs into the System with a single CAT5 connection and once connected the Wireless Control Pads easily establish communication, instantly providing complete control of the System from any zone in the house. The 1.7-inch OLED display provides the same complete bidirectional metadata associated with the traditional in-wall Essentia (E6G) and Grand Concerto Control Pads. The Control Pads “Menu” button gives instant access to Favorites, Sources, Playlists, as well as full browsing capability for personal music and broadcast presets. Any zone or system control available at the in-wall Control Pads is available wirelessly.

The key to the Wireless Control Pad is the additional solution it brings to the NuVo Essentia (E6G) and Grand Concerto Systems. They can be used as standalone control or in conjunction with the in-wall Control Pads. The Wireless Control Pad makes integrating the NuVo Distributed Audio Systems into the home even easier. NuVo is taking orders for the Wireless Control Pad now, and will start shipping the product late January.

Velodyne

Velodyne Releases SC-600 Subwoofer Series

New construction or retrofit installations are as easy as cut, plug and play

Velodyne Acoustics, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of powered subwoofers for home-theater and consumer audio, announces the introduction of the SC-600 Series, an affordable, easy-to-install line of subwoofers for the custom installation market. The SC-600 Series is a less expensive solution than the current SubContractor Series offered by Velodyne and consists of the SC-600 IW (In-Wall) subwoofer, the SC-600 IF/IC (In-Floor/In-Ceiling) subwoofer and the SC-600 amplifier, a 400-watt dynamic power amp which controls both subwoofers.

The SC-600 IW (In-Wall) subwoofer installs easily in either new construction or retrofit applications due to its one-piece sealed enclosure. A unique triple vector design, with two active 6.5" long-throw drivers and two custom passive radiators firing at 45 degree angles, maximizes excursion within the wall cavity and reduces wall vibration by 50%. The 16.25" x 14" grille fits flush in a standard 2x4 wall.

The SC-600 IF/IC (In-Floor/In-Ceiling) subwoofer can be concealed in the floor, ceiling, riser, closet or other enclosures. The 12" driver mounted in a slot-loaded, bass-reflex cabinet minimizes distortion and maximizes bass impact. In addition, the SC-ICG (In-Ceiling Grille) is a paintable, perforated metal 12" grille available as an option for ceiling installations.

The SC-600 amplifier powers the SC-600 IW and SC-600 IF/IC subwoofers. With 400 watts peak power and 200 watts RMS, it comes complete with a one-touch, five-band Auto-EQ room bass correction system and IR remote with customized listening presets for movies, R&B/rock, jazz/classical and games. Subwoofer volume, phase and night mode can also be adjusted via the remote control. The two-unit high, rack-mount amplifier is easily connected to the subwoofer with conventional speaker wire and includes RS-232 control (Crestron certified), 12V trigger and an IR repeater jack.

All three products in the SC-600 line have a suggested retail price of $499.50 and are available immediately.
