The Honda CR-V is the “go-to” vehicle choice for car buyers looking for a handsome, well-made and practical crossover utility vehicle. The all-new for 2012, fourth-generation CR-V boasts a bold new body design with improved aerodynamics. Higher levels of interior refinement and comfort, more standard features and more power and torque are also on tap for the 2012 model year, and models equipped with navigation are priced $300 less than last year. With improved fuel economy, better ride quality and updated entertainment features, the new 2012 Honda CR-V sets a new standard and has already been recognized by Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com as “2012 Best Redesigned Vehicle.”
When compared to the last generation, the new 2012 Honda CR-V (MSRP $22,295) features deeper body sculpting and a more aggressive stance. A horizontal three-bar grille and deeply set headlamps are integrated into the bold new front fascia. The sleek new body lines of the new CR-V add more than good looks; they have been designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency and interior versatility.
Interior space has also been maximized by intelligent design choices inside the cabin. A lower overall cargo floor height, coupled with an improved center console, increases usable cargo space while the new Easy Fold-Down 60/40 Split Rear Seat makes accessing that increased space easier than ever. Each side of the rear seat automatically folds nearly flat into the front of the cargo area with one small lever near the tailgate. There is also a pull-strap positioned on the seat side to perform the same function.
The all-new 2012 CR-V offers greater levels of comfort and an improved in-vehicle experience. The new five-inch full-color “intelligent” Multi-Information Display (i-MID) is standard for 2012 and offers a range of customizable features accessed by fingertip controls on the steering wheel, which also offers cruise, audio and phone controls. The upgraded audio system now offers connected options like the standard Pandora® Internet Radio interface that is iPhone compatible. When the system is connected to a compatible phone, the CR-V can read incoming SMS text messages aloud through the stereo – the first Honda to offer this feature – and the driver can reply with any of six factory preset messages. The Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® phone interface is also standard on all CR-V models and offers the safety and convenience of hands-free calling. The CR-V now has an available DVD Rear Entertainment System for the first time in the model’s history.
The engine of the CR-V has also seen improvements for the 2012 model year. The 2.4-liter i-VTEC DOHC four-cylinder engine, which comes paired with a standard five-speed automatic transmission receives a five horsepower increase, bringing the power rating to 185 hp and 163 lb/ft of torque. The updated engine is not only more powerful, it also boasts increased fuel economy. The 2012 CR-V is EPA-estimated at 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway for front-wheel drive models, an improvement of two mpg/three mpg over the last generation. Models equipped with the available, all-new Real Time All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Control System™
deliver fuel economy improvements of one mpg city and three mpg highway, bringing mpg totals to 22/30. This gives the 2012 CR-V the best AWD highway fuel economy in its class, besting competitors like the Ford Escape (27 mpg hwy) and the Kia Sportage (28 mpg hwy).
The five passenger, 2012 CR-V is available in LX, EX and EX-L models, each offering front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. All come standard with remote keyless entry, a multi-angle rear-view camera, Speed-Sensitive Volume Control for the stereo and floor mats (an extra-cost option on the Ford Escape). Opting for the EX adds 17-inch alloy wheels with a split five-spoke design, foglamps, rear privacy glass, a security system and a one-touch power moonroof. The standard four-speaker stereo gets upgraded to a six-speaker setup, and body-colored door handles and a retractable cargo area cover also come standard on EX models.
Choosing the EX-L adds many more features to the already impressively equipped CR-V. Adding a subwoofer and a more powerful amplifier to the audio system provides EX-L owners with seven speakers and 328 watts of entertainment power. The EX-L has a leather-trimmed interior including a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shiftknob, a 10-way power-adjusted driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and heated front seats. The EX-L is also available with the Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System and the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™.
Designed to be one of the safest vehicles in its class, every CR-V incorporates Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist™ with Motion-Adaptive Electric Power Steering, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brakes with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake Distribution and an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure that helps make the front of the vehicle highly effective at absorbing and dispersing the energy of a frontal collision.
