CMS Selects Final Five Medicare Parts A and B Contractors (MACs)

In January 2009, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the final five contractors that will process and pay Medicare claims for health care services under the Medicare Fee-for-Service program. As required by section 911 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA), CMS is replacing its current claims payment contractors - fiscal intermediaries and carriers - with new contract entities called Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs).
