Congressional Budget Office: Certain CMS Demos have not Reduced Medicare Spending

CMS Reminds Providers of Approaching Meaningful Use Deadlines
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have released a statement for providers participating in the Medicare electronic health record (EHR) incentive program. Eligible providers seeking to qualify for the 2011 incentives have until February 29 of this year to enroll and report on EHR meaningful use (MU) compliance as well as submit all Medicare Part B claims needed to meet the $24,000 MU threshold, the CMS said in a statement.

Radiology Benefits Manager Unveils Clinical Decision Support Service for Imaging
Radiology benefits manager HealthHelp has launched a service that adds clinical decision support to the company's diagnostic imaging program for benefits management. The service, called Rank and Suggest Alternatives, can be used for imaging tests including PET and CT angiography.

US Wants Effective Alzheimer's Treatment by 2025
The government is setting what it calls an ambitious goal for Alzheimer’s disease: development of effective ways to treat and prevent the mind-destroying illness by 2025. The Obama administration is developing the first National Alzheimer’s Plan to find better treatments for the disease and offer better day-to-day care for those afflicted.

American Cancer Society Reports Continued Drop in Cancer Mortality
Statistics from the American Cancer Society (ACS) show a steady decline in cancer deaths between 2004 and 2008, with decreases of 1.8 percent per year in men and 1.6 percent per year in women, according to “Cancer Statistics 2012,” a report published online ahead of print in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. Lung cancer deaths in men and breast cancer deaths in women were among the most marked declines.

Successful Small Business Cause Marketing Campaigns
In 2010, the fourth annual good purpose study conducted by Edelman, showed that “86% of global consumers believe that business needs to place at least equal weight on society’s interests as on those of business.” This overwhelming majority has led a large portion of businesses, big and small, to listen up and take action. When a large business rolls out a cause marketing campaign, the consumer can’t escape it because there is a barrage of print, TV and web ads. What's New
SNM Brings Molecular Imaging to the Public on Times Square Jumbotron
At the end of 2011, SNM debuted a 15-second message on the CBS jumbotron screen in New York City’s Times Square to raise public awareness of molecular imaging. The video will run once an hour for 3 months. It was visible during the holiday season and the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration, which attracted an estimated 1 million people.
The CBS “Super Screen” is 26 feet tall and 20 feet across and is strategically positioned at 42nd St. between 7th and 8th Avenues in the heart of the Times Square Plaza. It is estimated that 1.6 million people pass through Times Square each day.
The video focuses on how molecular imaging can provide earlier diagnosis and directs people to SNM’s new patient website, www.discovermi.org, where you can view a longer version of the video and find many other valuable resources for your patients.
