Bond "Uncertain"
Philip Morris might not post $12 billion to appeal tobacco case

NEW YORK -- Philip Morris USA said it is "presently uncertain" if it will be able to make its next payments to state governments under the 1998 tobacco settlement because of the large bond it is being required to post by a court in Madison County, Ill., according to the Wall Street Journal.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root provides first dispensers to accept MC PayPass

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root retrofitted the nation's first gasoline dispensers to accept MasterCard PayPass “contactless” payment cards in late February. Working with MasterCard, Chevron and Panasonic, the first four sites now accept the new MasterCard payment card that eliminates the need for swiping the card through a reader.

Consumers can tap or wave their payment card at the reader. MasterCard PayPass cards contain a microchip that uses radio frequency (RF) technology to wirelessly transmit account information. The cards and readers are compliant with the global standard ISO 14443.

Protection or Prohibition?
New anti-smoking laws are causing a stir. What's your opinion?

Earlier this week, New York State put into effect the most stringent anti-smoking laws in the nation, making it illegal to smoke in virtually any public place, other than a handful of high-end cigar bars and the local Elks club.

It’s clear the impact laws such as this will eventually have on tobacco retailers, but as an American, what do you think of such regulations? Is this a positive step toward making our land a better place to live, or is this an infringement of our rights? Click on the link below to share your thoughts on the subject with your colleagues and the editors of CSP Daily News and CSP magazine.
