Mission of mercy turns to tragedy for Call, two friends

OGDEN, Utah -- O. Jay Call, the founder and chairman of Flying J Inc., the nation's largest retailer of diesel fuel, was killed Saturday in a jet crash while flying friends to Hailey, Idaho, after one of the friends had received cancer treatments in Salt Lake City, said the Salt Lake Tribune.

The two other passengers in the Cessna Citation twin jet engine aircraft were Richard “Buzz” Germer and his wife Irene Germer, according to Flying J executives. Richard Germer was the retired president of Big West Oil Co., the North Salt Lake oil refinery for Flying J, and a member of the company’s board.
