Davis Calls for Probe
California gas price inquiry to focus on "potential criminality"

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Gov. Gray Davis said he planned to send letters Thursday to the California Public Utility Commission & Energy Commission to investigate the state's steep rise in gasoline prices, reported the Associated Press.

Davis said he would give the commissions 15 days to respond to the letters, which the Democrat characterized as the opening inquiry into “potential criminality” among gasoline retailers, oil refineries or others in the petroleum industry.

"Freedom Fry" Supersizing
Legislators, restaurateurs bid adieu to "French" cuisine

WASHINGTON -- Last week, lawmakers struck a lunchtime blow against the French, who have not been supportive of a war against Iraq, and put "freedom fries" on the menu, and for breakfast, they'll now have "freedom toast," according to an Associated Press report.

"Update. Now Serving in All House Office Buildings, 'Freedom Fries'," read a sign that Republican Reps. Bob Ney of Ohio and Walter Jones of North Carolina placed at the register in the Longworth Office Building food court, the report stated. Jones said he was inspired by Cubbie's restaurant in Beaufort, N.C., in his district, which--as reported in CSP Daily News--was one of the first to put "freedom fries" on the menu instead of French fries.
