7-Eleven aims high with fresh foods

NEW YORK – 7-Eleven Inc. officials say they aim to expand the chain’s fresh-food business to account for 20 percent of its sales over the next five years, according to a Dow Jones report yesterday. The category currently accounts for 6 percent of the chain’s sales, according to the report.

As the Dallas-based chain rolls out its new Big Eats foodservice program, company officials say they are seeking to significantly improve the chain’s image with regard to fresh food.

Video Poker Raid Hits N.C. Stores
Lawmakers asked to ban games

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Authorities in North Carolina said they removed illegal video poker machines from six Mecklenburg County businesses in a raid Wednesday as law enforcement officials asked state leaders to ban the games, The Charlotte Observer reports.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and agents with the county Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission confiscated 17 machines from Charlotte-area convenience stores and bars.
