Markup Reversal

MADISON, Wis. -- The U.S. Court of Appeals Seventh Circuit ruled that Wisconsin's Unfair Sales Act—the state's 71-year-old minimum markup law on gasoline—is constitutional. The decision marks the 10th time an appellate court has ruled in favor of keeping the law in place, said the Wisconsin Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- Nearly half (45%) of U.S. households are diligently seeking lower gas prices, The Nielsen Co. has found. The economy has consumers looking for cost savings across the board, even as they revert to some pre-recession habits, it said.

General Tobacco Shutting Down

MAYODAN, N.C. -- General Tobacco, a maker of low-priced cigarettes that became the sixth-largest U.S. tobacco company during the last decade, plans to shut down after failing to make payments it owed to states under an industry settlement, reported The Wall Street Journal.

LOS ANGELES -- A fight has broken out over Nielsen ratings for TVs at gas pumps. Gas Station TV (GSTV) claimed that a former vice president of sales at NBC stole trade secrets and used them to defame it and give a competitor an advantage, said Courthouse News. GSTV sued its competitor, Outcast, and Michael Mongelluzzo in Superior Court.
