LAO Presents Restructuring Options to Legislature

On Thursday, June 24, the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) — in the person of Marianne O’Malley — presented realignment options to the Budget Conference Committee. Her handout (available
here) will be of particular interest to counties.
 
The Senate Democrats have included a realignment proposal – alternately called restructuring – as a major component of their plan for balancing the state’s budget this year and in future years, though details have been sparse. The Conference Committee asked the LAO to present options as to which programs might make sense for such a shift of responsibilities.

New CSAC Publication to Replace Legislative Bulletin and Around Our Counties
Beginning Friday July 9, the Legislative Bulletin and Around Our Counties will be merged into the CSAC Bulletin, a weekly e-publication. The CSAC Bulletin will be distributed on Fridays, and will contain the excellent news stories and analysis you’ve come to expect from CSAC. The new format is easier to read and navigate. If you are already receiving Around Our Counties or the Legislative Bulletin, you will automatically be subscribed to the CSAC Bulletin. The Budget Action Bulletins and Executive Directors Watch will continue to be produced. We are excited about this new and improved communication effort.

In its current form, AB 222 would update the Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 to incorporate changes that will enable and expedite the production of advanced, non-food derived biofuels, green power, and other bio-based products from biomass.
