Two Measures Reform State Mandate Procedures for Local Government
By Steve Keil, Interim Executive Director
skeil@counties.org

Efforts are under way in the State Legislature to reform the procedures that counties and other local agencies must follow to determine the existence of a reimbursable state mandate, and to receive reimbursement for costs once a mandate is determined.

Current reform efforts are designed to help with reducing time, cost and adversity involved in the mandate claiming process. Two bills on this subject are advancing with support from local government representatives (including CSAC): AB 1222 (Laird) and AB 1576 (Silva).
