Counties Urged to Join National Effort on Inmate Medical Care
CSAC Supports NACo’s Advocacy on the Continuity of
Government-Provided Medical Coverage for Detainees

CSAC is strongly supporting the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) advocacy effort on inmate medical care. Specifically, NACo wishes to address federal laws that impede the continuity of government-provided medical coverage for persons detained in a state or local facility.
 
The responsibility for jail inmates’ medical care in these facilities falls to counties. An interruption of medical benefits — and delays in re-enrollment that individuals typically experience once released from detention — can create serious problems both for the individual and for the county.
