Throughout the jungles of Belize and Guatemala, the story of the Maya is told in mysterious glyphs etched into stone and in the ruins of grand cities—centers of power in the ancient Maya world. Join us on this extraordinary tour as we explore both iconic and seldom-seen deep-jungle ruins, where we'll come to appreciate the cultural, intellectual, and scientific achievements of a remarkable people whose descendants still live in Central America and southern Mexico today.

Dr. Christopher Powell has conducted archaeological research throughout the Maya world for 20 years, including excavations at Copan, Honduras, where he excavated the tomb of Copan's lineage founder, Yax K'uk'Mo, as featured in National Geographic Magazine. Chris obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin Institute of Latin American Studies in 2012 and is currently an associate at the Maya Exploration Center in Austin. Throughout our tour, Chris will present his revolutionary theories regarding Maya geometry and discuss the importance of the proportions of nature in the art and architecture of both ancient and modern Maya peoples.
