Campus Receives More Than Four Feet So Far This Season

The Crow Canyon lodge in January.
This winter Crow Canyon and the entire Four Corners area have been hit by record-breaking snowfall. Total seasonal snowfall for the Cortez, Colorado, area was recorded at more than four feet by the fourth week of February.

Just a few miles north of the Center, five to six feet was reported. Longtime staff members and local residents say this is the most snow they ever recall for one season. Crow Canyon's new president, Deborah Gangloff, arrived for her first visit to the Center in the midst of a blizzard.

On the good side, the snow will provide much-needed moisture for farmers (including those participating in Crow Canyon's Pueblo Farming Project) and should make for a lush spring season on the Colorado plateau. And the views of snow-covered Mesa Verde and the brilliant peaks of the La Plata Mountains have been stellar—along with the skiing! For more snowfall photos, visit Crow Canyon's Facebook page.
