The New Economy: Preparing Utah for the Future

At the Utah Intergovernmental Roundtable’s Annual Summit, “The New Economy: Preparing Utah for the Future,” a distinguished group of national and local experts will explore how the current economic crisis will impact our communities on a long term basis.

Some of the issues that will be addressed include:

  • What do the struggles in the economy mean to people in Utah and the people who live here?
  • How will the changes influence decisions on housing, community planning, job markets, and transportation?
  • How could the economic changes impact the demand for housing?
  • How will current growth patterns and changing demographics impact our decision making?
  • What direction is the national economy taking?

Utah Intergovernmental Roundtable’s mission is to facilitate discussion and promote understanding of intergovernmental issues in order to enhance the cooperation and interaction of governmental entities.  The economy is providing many opportunities for various branches of government to reconsider how they operate and how to do more with less.  This event is a unique opportunity to bring experts together to consider these issues on a broader basis.

A few of the speakers include Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert, Jeff Thredgold, Chief Economist of Zions Bank and President of Thredgold Economic Associates, and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker. A full list of speakers and the agenda follows.
