Honda has slowly been rolling out each and every new member of the 10th-generation Civic family. Saving the best for last, the automaker has just now gotten around to unveiling the sportier Civic variants, including the first American Type R and the first turbocharged Si. Speedy and stylish, the new 2017 Honda Civic Si provides a thrilling and affordable driving experience for those who value performance.
A sporty Si
For the first time in its history, the Civic Si is equipped with a high-torque 1.5-liter, directed-injected and turbocharged DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine with dual variable cam timing (dual VTC). That engine is mated to a short-throw, six-speed manual transmission, and can yield an increased peak horsepower of 205 hp and an improved peak torque of 192 lb-ft.
The Si takes the already sporty design of the standard 10th-gen Civic and builds on it, with additions that include an aggressive black “wing” front fascia with larger side air intake features, 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with a model-exclusive two-tone finish, 235mm-wide low-profile tires, a chrome center-mounted polygonal exhaust finisher, larger rear side vent features and a deck lid spoiler that incorporates an LED brake light. The cabin is also plenty sporty, with Si-exclusive bolstered front sport seats with red stitching (including stitched Si logos), a red driver’s TFT meter and audio system illumination, aluminum sport pedals and a Dry Metal Carbon instrument panel trim.
A comfy Si
The 2017 Honda Civic Si is not just for performance enthusiasts, though. Both the two-door coupe and four-door sedan are also stuffed with top-notch comfort and convenience features.
Features new to the 2017 Si include an electronic parking brake, walk away door locking, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. That new infotainment system also boasts a 450-watt, 10-speaker sound system, which makes it easier than ever to create a rocking soundtrack as you cruise down the highway in your sporty Si.
Both the 2017 Honda Civic Si coupe and sedan models are built for a combination of sporty fun and comfortable convenience, and provide all of that and more at an impressive price point.
