When Dodge released the Challenger SRT® Hellcat, many people assumed that Dodge had reached the top of its performance game.
However, Dodge wasn’t remotely finished with the Challenger and subsequently announced a whole new SRT® sports car that leaves even the great power of the Hellcat in the dust: the Dodge Challenger SRT® Demon.
The heart of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT® Demon is its engine: a roaring, supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® SRT Demon V8 producing an unbelievable 840 horsepower, making it the most powerful mass-production V8 ever made.
This serious engine requires some serious supporting features to achieve this level of power, including a 2.7-liter supercharger, two dual-stage fuel pumps, the Air-Grabber™ hood scoop (the largest ever functional hood scoop on any production car), dual Air-Catcher Headlamps, the SRT® Power Chiller™ engine-cooling system and the After-Run Cooler engine-cooling system.
With its enormous power, the Dodge Challenger SRT® Demon has a lot of firsts under its belt.
The Dodge Demon is the first factory-produced car ever to pop a wheelie at launch. Partly, this is because it is also the first-ever factory production car with drag radial tires, which, due to their specific construction and chemistry, offer 40 percent more launch force than Hellcat tires and nearly double the coefficient of traction compared to street tires.
More firsts include the first-ever factory production car with a transbrake, which offers the use of more torque and a quicker response at launch. This enables it to achieve brake-free launches at up to 2,350 rpm with 15 percent more torque at the rear tires.
The Demon is the first-ever factory production car to offer Drag Mode Launch Assist, mitigating tire stick and slip by monitoring for and mitigating these factors.
All of this industry-first technology earns the Dodge Demon some impressive ribbons, including the title for highest G-force produced by a production car, at 1.8 Gs. The Demon also delivers the world’s fastest zero-to-60 mph time of any production car at a scant 2.3 seconds and runs the world’s fastest quarter-mile for a production car at 9.65 seconds, reaching 140.9 mph.
Filled with industry-first features and boasting industry-first feats, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT® Demon is the ultimate drag strip monster.
