Vehicle Details: 2018 Subaru WRX Performance
A zippy ride from the automaker of adventure

Subaru’s lineup is filled with vehicles meant to connect drivers with the great outdoors, but the WRX serves a different purpose. Its sports car performance and nighttime street looks are perfect for twisting urban roads and curving closed tracks alike.

The Subaru BOXER® engine

The automaker has garnered plenty of acclaim for its BOXER® engine, and for good reason. This unusual engine differs from most V-shaped engines, instead going with a horizontally opposed layout that lets the pistons move from side to side. This creates better symmetrical balance, a lower center of gravity and better handling — especially with the standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

Thanks to this engineering, the Subaru WRX is able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in about six seconds. With that level of speed, the WRX is thankfully outfitted with a brake-based Active Torque Vectoring system.

Horsepower and torque

All versions of the 2018 WRX come with one of two versions of the Subaru BOXER® engine. The base-level, Premium, and Limited trims feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder version of the engine. When paired to a standard six-speed manual transmission, this engine achieves a potential 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The STI and STI Limited trims have an upgraded version of the BOXER® engine, with a 2.5-liter displacement. With a finely-tuned, close-ratio six-speed manual transmission, this engine boosts performance capability up to 305 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque.

Driving enhancements

Performance on the road or track is more than what’s under the hood. All versions of the 2018 WRX are rigged with a number of athletic exterior features, including Dunlop Sport Maxx RT summer tires, a low-profile trunk spoiler, an exhaust system with quad stainless-steel outlets and a rear bumper with integrated diffuser. The base version of the WRX features 17-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels, which you can upgrade at higher trim levels to 18-inch or 19-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels.

For a sleek, superior ride at a smart price, the 2018 Subaru WRX delivers.
