A compact SUV built with you in mind

The Subaru Forester is a five-passenger compact SUV that adds new driver technologies and improved fuel economy for the 2017 model year.

The 2017 Subaru Forester (MSRP $22,595) is available in 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 2.5 Touring, 2.0XT Premium and 2.0XT Touring trims.

Kelley Blue Book notes, “For 2017 the Subaru Forester offers up an all-wheel-drive, fuel-efficient, 5-passenger compact SUV with a plethora of available safety equipment. It's also surprisingly good off-road and has an excellent reliability record. This year, it's even a little bit of a looker.”

The Forester is powered by your choice of two available engines. The 2.5i models are powered by 170-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with your choice of a six-speed manual or Lineartronic® Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Fuel estimates for this engine are rated up to 26 mpg in the city (a 2 mpg increase over the 2016 model) and 32 mpg on the highway. Your other engine option is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (now with torque vectoring) that brings output to 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque; this engine is mated exclusively to the CVT. Regardless of which engine you choose, the Forester comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with Vehicle Dynamics Control. A driver selectable x-Mode is also available. The Forester also offers an impressive 8.7-inches of ground clearance—perfect for any off-road jaunts.

Inside, the 2017 Forester  adds more soundproofing for a quieter cabin than the previous model year. Depending on trim level, amenities include a heated steering wheel, keyless access with push-button start, power tailgate, navigation system, power moonroof, perforated leather upholstery, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control. The standard 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatback allows you to unlock up to 74.7 cubic feet of cargo space. Even with all five passengers in place, the Forester can hold up to 34.4 cubic feet of cargo.

The 2017 Forester is offered with Siri® EyesFree for the first time ever. There are two available SUBARU STARLINK™ packages including the STARLINK 6.2” with HD Radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and smartphone integration. The available STARLINK 7.0” uses a high resolution seven-inch screen and includes SiriusXM, with a navigation system also available.

The 2017 Forester was named a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety with a Superior rating in Front Crash Prevention. That’s on top of its 5-Star Overall designation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2017 model is available with an updated version of the Subaru EyeSight system that includes Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Pre-Collision Braking in addition to Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Detection/Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The Forester is now also available with High Beam Assist that can switch between high and low beams automatically.
