Advanced Technology Update
As previously announced in June 2008, we have been researching requirements for security, voice, and wireless skills for Cisco Networking Academy students. Research conducted by Forrester Research, Inc. on behalf of Cisco shows a growing demand for these skills in entry-level networking positions.
From May through August 2008, we gathered feedback from members of the Networking Academy global community through interviews, focus groups, and surveys to determine the best way to support our students in obtaining these skills. The results overwhelmingly indicated that teaching security skills is the first priority. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that Networking Academy will develop a totally new security course that aligns with the Cisco CCNA Security certification. Direction for wireless and voice technologies will be communicated in the next six months.

Magazine
Collaboration: The Key to Education Evolution
by Gene Longo, Cisco Global Education
With global collaboration, "always-on" communication and an ever-increasing reliance on the network for critical business functions, nearly every organization in the world has a need for skilled IT and network professionals. Despite this growing demand, our education system is struggling to keep pace with advances in technology and industry and is not preparing the next generation with the skills they will need to meet the enormous economic, social, technological and environmental challenges facing the postmillennial world. This network skills gap poses a serious threat for public sector and private organizations alike, both of which find themselves relying ever more heavily on technology to meet their basic business requirements.
