“Disconnecting”, even for a Little While, Makes Us More Productive
By Everett Potter, as seen in 'Everett Potter's Travel Report
[Photo from Ciclismo's new Chile & Argentina Tour, taken by Lili Winslow]
In a recent report by Everett Potter, one of America’s most renowned editors and writers of issues related to travel, leisure, and life, Potter reveals what Dr. Stephen R. Covey says about the long-term, positive effects of vacationing and downtime on our personal and professional well being.
Essentially, the lifetime value of traveling, disconnecting from work and the everyday routine and reconnecting with yourself, family, and loved ones while exploring a new destination is well, invaluable!
Covey says:
“A vacation break is like daily exercise. You get significantly increased vitality and health. It should be part of everyone’s overall personal mission statement."
Dr. Covey has two suggestions to make a vacation an actual vacation.
"Make your mind up that's what you're going to do," he says. "It's a clear, personal determination that should involve your family. And prepare in advance….”

Ciclismo’s PMC Bike Across Italy Contributes to Pan-Massachusetts Challenge’s New Fundraising Record
PMC Raises $2 Million More Despite Economy – $35 Million Total in 2008
The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), a pioneer event in the athletic events arena, has been a core recipient of Ciclismo Classico’s socially responsible mission, and an event close to the heart our founder Lauren Hefferon. “The PMC is such an inspiring, centering, and spiritually energizing cycling event. Its growth in participation and fundraising for cancer research and patient care at Boston’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute, while furthering the appeal of cycling as a lifestyle make it a very special time of year for me,” says Lauren.
In 2008, the PMC attracted 5,232 cycling fundraisers, about 300 more than last year. Riders came to Massachusetts from 36 states and eight countries. "That the PMC exceeded its fundraising goal in this very troubled economy is a tribute to PMCers' commitment to raising money for cancer research and care, said Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director.
Ride the PMC in Italy
Ciclismo Classico will continue its commitment of PMC support with its second annual PMC Bike Across Italy tour! It’s the ultimate vacation and charitable support all-in-one event. Starting July 26, 2009, we will pedal coast-to-coast from the Adriatic to the Mediterranean, and the last two days will be our PMC in Italy – a 190-mile ride taking place concurrently with the Massachusetts event. As we reach the sea in Italy, our stateside PMCers will be approaching the shores of Provincetown, Cape Cod.
Save $1,000 Per Person on PMC Italy Tour
By fundraising for the PMC, participants are eligible for a $1,000 savings on the PMC Bike Across Italy tour. Just register for the PMC and reserve your spot by December 17, 2008!

Not Your Everyday Books about Italy – “Quintessentially Italian” Reads
Demystifying the “passeggiata”, the Gonola’s Tail, Buying Balsamic Vinegar, and Other Secrets and Italian Trademarks
We enjoy Everett Potter’s useful, pithy and one-of-a-kind insights in every issue of Everett Potter’s Travel Report. His review of books about Italy and all things Italian jumped out at us because their themes are in great parallel to the Ciclismo experience!
On a Ciclismo vacation, you get behind the scenes, deep into the culture of everyday Italians and their lifestyle, food, customs, habits, and the historical reasons behind how so many simple, everyday practices have evolved through many complexities.
Our local tour leaders will immerse you in the same, except by bike! Combine the energy of the riding with the vivid sights, peaceful sounds, savory smells and delicious tastes of all things Italian, and you really make your next Ciclismo vacation a “vacation”, in the words of Dr. Stephen R. Covey (see previous article in this newsletter).

GRAZIE from the Best Guide Team in the Business!
Thanks to the Best Guests for an Amazing 2008 Cycling Season
By Cristiano Bonino, Senior Tour Leader from Piedmont
Dear Guests, Cari Amici,
Grazie mille to all of you, our travellers, who have made the 2008 season one of the best ever!
It is a great pleasure for me to say that the touring season has been amazingly wonderful for many reasons. First of all, for the company of those who I have had the honour to meet for the first time, and to those of you I have cycled with again and again.
My tour leader colleagues and friends have rounded out the kind of Ciclismo magic that all travellers have experienced, that can only happen on a Ciclismo tour!
My most remarkable memory of the season, still sitting vividly in my mind, was when Simone, my co-guide from Sardegna and I had the pleasure to meet a guest who had just completed one of the most stressful work assignments of her life, and just couldn’t disconnect from it just yet.
Little by little, day after day as the tour unfolded with many memorable moments, a beautiful climate, amazing bike rides and yummy food enjoyed in good company, she started to get in to the “groove” of the trip, and finally fell in love with Sardegna and Corsica. (Mediterranean Island Hopping). How can a guide ask for more in terms of satisfaction for the work done?
Simone and I love showing our guests the lands we love. We feel like two directors of a movie starring celebrities with incredible lives (that’s you), and with great ease, simply sharing with them a short walk/ride of life that will remain in our hearts and yours, as one of the most unforgettable memories of the year.
So keep on riding, my friends! On behalf of the entire team of more than 30 Ciclismo leaders, I look forward to meeting you on tour next year - we’ll help transform your life and energize your spirit!
Un abbraccio a tutti!
Cristiano Bonino
