Paint Touch Up: Getting it Done Right!

Don’t get caught trying to touch up a scratch or scrape on your car’s paint job with nail polish. There are some great nail polish colors that look great our toes and fingers however they don’t go so well on cars. Even if you think the color is close enough it is almost guaranteed that someone else will notice the blemish. It is always better to get the job done right the first time. So if you shouldn’t use nail polish, how should you fix those scratches and scrapes?

Hot Rod Jim’s chassis shop

Hot Rod Jim’s chassis shop out of Central Texas Retro fits late model Corvette Suspensions to our favorite old cars transforming them into road going machines with everything from break neck handling to smooth cruising packages. Hot Rod Jim’s is a family owned and operated with Jim at the helm and his two sons Billy and Russell working alongside him on fabrication, chassis design, building assembly and testing.  The most notable creation being their No Body Modification chassis for the TriFive (1955-57) Chevys chassis using the C4 Corvette suspension (1984-96). With over 35 delivered in a little over a year we’ve modified and setup this suspension beyond that of any other shop and Daily Drive these cars ourselves to prove it.  Jim’s also has several C5 Corvette suspensions (1997-04) under Shelby Cobras, 1932 Ford 3 Window Coupe and TriFive Chevys including the Snap-On Glo Mad that Chop- Shop Customs also participated in.

Great News, Massachusetts! Grundy Worldwide has changed the age restriction on insuring collector vehicles from 25 years to 15 years and older, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

My History with Oldsmobiles

I became interested in Oldsmobiles through a friend and purchased (actually traded a reel-to-reel tape deck for) a 1957 dark gray 98 two-door hardtop from him in 1966. The ‘57 had power windows and seat and was used to transport me in upstate New York and to take me back and forth to school in Boston. I even drag raced it at a 1/8th mile track at Fulton, NY turning 66 mph (I don’t remember the time) and winning “J stock automatic” against a 1958 Pontiac probably mostly by luck. After a few runs, I learned I could get the best times by “brake revving” the car but I had to time it right because the power brakes took a fraction of a second to release before the car would move. I spent a ridiculous amount of money (for the time and my income) adding exhaust dumps and doing other meaningless tasks aimed at improving performance. The car trapped me once due to a poor negative battery connection. I had just backed into a tight parking spot and turned the car off when I discovered that I could barely open the door - certainly not enough to get out. I went to start the car but there was just a click and then nothing. I was stuck there unable to open the doors, roll down the windows or blow the horn. Finally someone saw me waving and came close enough to get directions on how to correct the battery connection. In 1967 the car developed valve problems (probably the camshaft problem common to the 371 CID engine) and I gave the car away (sure wish I kept it now).
