Cisco – Focusing on the Service Providers’ Success
SP360: Service Provider Blog Post

The Cloud market is certainly heating up. Thursday’s Dell’s recent announcement of a $1B (US) investment in 2011 to enter the Cloud hosting market had me reflecting on their new direction. Dell is beginning a two-year build-out of ten data centers around the world to serve enterprises’ public and private Cloud needs. Earlier this year in a similar move, HP announced a set of new Cloud services they are offering ranging from consultancy, Cloud services, and equipment. These options included an “Enterprise Cloud Services-Compute” which will deliver private Cloud services directly from HP’s data centers to end-customers.

NAB 2011: An End-to-End Look at File-based Video Workflows
SP360: Service Provider Blog Post

One thing is increasingly clear at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters convention, this week in Las Vegas: Content providers and service providers are quickening their pace in the transition from video signal-based routing to a more data-centric, file-based environment. Why? Because it’s faster, more efficient, and more scalable - all important considerations in today’s world of burgeoning-everything, from content types to distribution paths to video-capable screens.

Multi-vendor MPLS-TP Interoperability Demonstrated for Packet Transport Networks
SP360: Service Provider Blog Post

Widely deployed from the core to the edge, IP/MPLS has achieved huge success as a mature, standards-based technology now deployed by virtually every service provider worldwide.  As a result, the industry has chosen to extend IP/MPLS and develop a transport profile called MPLS-TP (MPLS Transport Profile). MPLS-TP is the packet transport technology of choice being developed by the IETF to allow service providers to cost effectively migrate existing transport networks to packet based solutions.

Cisco Knowledge Network: Mobility - Mobile Data Offload with Network Optimization
Tuesday April 26, 2011

Join Cisco for an on demand virtual overview on mobile data offload and discuss ways that operators can increase profitability and reduce operating costs while managing the mobile video and data tidal wave.
Cisco's Visual Networking Index (VNI) predicts that mobile data traffic will grow 26-fold between 2010 and 2015, with over 50% of all network traffic being video. In fact, global mobile data traffic has tripled yearly for the past three years. Smartphone subscribers alone will account for nearly 1.2GB of traffic per month by 2015 (as compared to 74MB per month in 2010). These growth numbers highlight the need for mobile operators to investment intelligently in their network infrastructure, not just increasing capacity, but also optimizing transport and service experience.
Anyone who completes the survey at the conclusion of the event will receive a free copy of Mark Grayson's book, Building the Mobile Internet.

Speakers: Mark Grayson Distinguished Consulting Engineer, Cisco
Moderator: Kevin Shatzkamer, Distinguished Systems Engineer, Cisco
