The Committee uses a very thorough process
to review, screen and interview potential board members to work to select those
whose skills best compliment those currently found among board members and
those skills most needed.
A skill matrix is developed at the
beginning of each year to lay out all of the knowledge, skill, abilities,
experiences and contacts that CFRE International most needs for the immediate
future. The talents and expertise of
current board members is then put into the matrix. This then provides the Committee on Directorship with a roadmap
of most needed attributes against which nominations can be considered.
The Call for Nominations goes to the entire
CFRE certificant population, as well as additional notices being sent to CFRE
International Committee members and the leadership of our participating
professional associations for their suggestions. The attributes identified in the skill matrix are then included
in that Call for Nominations in hope of attracting a wide range of nominees
with those qualities.
Once the Call for Nominations closes, the
Committee on Directorship meets to consider all applicants. Applicants must be currently certified in
good standing and have recertified at least once. In addition, the Committee reviews which applicants have served
CFRE International previously, giving them some added insight into the work of
the organisation.
The group works to consensus on which
candidates to select for further interview.
Each of those candidates then participates in a telephone interview,
each lasting approximately one hour.
Candidates are asked a variety of questions about their own view on
certification, their thoughts on the future direction of CFRE International and
what talents they can bring to the organisation.
Following the interviews, candidates are
then asked to provide volunteer references from other nonprofit organisations,
other than their employer, for which they have served.
All of this information is then collected
and brought back to the Committee on Directorship as a whole. Deliberation is then conducted to determine
which of the interviewed candidates bet fit the needs of the organisation at
this time. The group selects the slate
by consensus. The slate is then
forwarded to the certificant population for ratification.
CFRE International conducts electronic
voting on-line. You should look for
your ballot in your email in-box during the first full week of October 2008.
