Most instructional designers know that practice makes perfect. As the well-worn example states, you don’t learn to ride a bicycle by reading about it, or by discussing the history of the bicycle, or by answering multiple choice questions about the physics of riding a bicycle. You learn by doing. Practice is a powerful way to develop skills and a key component of effective training. However, the nature of the practice is key to maximizing its usefulness.
