Internet telephony uses IP telephony protocols to link calls over the Internet. Because Internet telephony calls are made over the public Internet, the voice quality can sometimes suffer. Even though you pay for access to the Internet, you cannot be guaranteed that the packets will get to the other caller in the correct order or without delay in the conversation.
