It’s Not If….
it’s when you will be a family caregiver; now is the time to speak out for family caregivers


“Family caregivers” provide care and assistance for family members and friends who are in need of support because of age, illness or disability. It is vital that caregivers are supported, recognized and protected in order to enable Canadians to choose to live and age independently, with dignity and safety at home in their communities. CARP weighs in on Ontario Budget

The recent economic downturn has forced many Canadians over the age of 45 into difficult financial circumstances. People planning to retire have seen their retirement portfolios devastated. And those who have already reached retirement have taken a severe financial hit, with little chance to recoup the losses.

CARP submitted strong recommendations to Ontario’s Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, to convince the Liberal government to include measures in their 2009 Budget that address the financial security of the province’s older, hard-hit residents. Read more.

We were pleased that 568 of you completed our recent survey on how secure and confident you feel about your retirement income. Nearly 96% of those who responded were over 55 and nearly 79% were retired so the questions were very relevant. Most of you are clearly worried about being able to live comfortably in retirement, and that spurs us to more advocacy on your behalf. Read more.
