Wolff recommends adding water-rich spinach, kale and cucumber for a delicious and hydrating summer salad.
If a cup of coffee is part of your daily routine, you need not fret that your hydration will suffer. According to “US News & World Report” writer Allison Underhill, “coffee doesn’t cause fluid loss”; she adds that “your morning cup of Joe is 98 percent water, enough to leave you more hydrated than before.”
Pinkies out, because a cup of your favorite tea is a great source of hydration. Time.com writer Michelle Castillo cites research from the “European Journal of Clinical Nutrition” that reports tea offers the same hydration benefits of water, plus a dose of antioxidants.
Soup is usually reserved for winter or cold-weather days, but it is a perfect dish to help you hydrate this summer. According to Dolgoff, 1 cup of chicken noodle soup delivers 8 ounces of water. If a hot bowl of soup doesn’t appeal to you on a hot summer’s day, Underhill suggests preparing gazpacho—a Spanish soup traditionally served cold—which can be made with a variety of ingredients, including water-rich fruits such as cucumber and watermelon.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and beginning your day with a bowl of oatmeal will kick start your day’s hydration needs. According to Underhill, this fiber-rich breakfast food absorbs the liquid—milk or water—in the cooking process, making it an excellent and hydration-positive meal. By adding hydrating strawberries or blueberries, you are eating the equivalent water content to a cucumber, reports Underhill.
