North Carolina Wants You to Stop and Smell the Roses
The grass is always greener in Greensboro.

In 2004, the U.S. Department of Energy awarded Greensboro, North Carolina, a spot in the Clean Cities Hall of Fame for its commitment to beauty, local business and overall livability. Today, as the third-largest city in North Carolina, Greensboro attracts visitors with its perfectly groomed parks, countless museums and thriving downtown area.

Whether you’re in town for an event at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex or simply to explore the city’s historic mansions and gardens, this North Carolina community will make you feel welcome and keep you entertained!

At the Greensboro Center City Park, you’ll be right in the heart of downtown. On most weekends, the park comes alive with performances by musicians, magicians, storytellers and more. In October, check out Big Bang Boom, a Kuumba African Dance and Drumming group. Because the park is located near the Greensboro Historical Museum and the Greensboro Children’s Museum, many curators, historians and local experts host classes and discussions on a variety of topics.

Popular fitness groups are also happy to have guests in the park; try some salsa with the professionals from Studio 318, or Tai Chi with instructor Eric Reiss.  Even if you just feel like relaxing, Center City Park is the perfect spot for an afternoon rest or meditation. The park’s main fountain is not to be missed; representing the seasonal streambeds found throughout the Piedmont region of North Carolina, the fountain is truly a work of art and a symbol of Greensboro’s civic pride.

The Natural Science Center of Greensboro is a treat for the whole family. With tigers, meerkats, crocodiles and more, the center offers plenty of wildlife and interactive exhibits to keep even the youngest members of your family amused. Currently showing at the museum is Extreme Deep: Mission into the Abyss, a 6,000-square-foot traveling exhibit that takes you through a deep-sea adventure. You can forget a trip to the regular movie theater – the Natural Science Center features a state-of-the-art Omnisphere, showing sci-fi favorites (some even in 3D) on a 40-foot dome.

Recently named one of the 50 Best Regional Theatres in America by New York’s Drama League, Greensboro’s Triad Stage features local productions with big-name talent. Located in the city’s historic district and equipped with a main stage, as well as an Up Stage Cabaret, the theatre will be showing Oleanna and Beautiful Star: An Appalachian Nativity in the upcoming months. As a winner of the Professional Theatre of the Year award from the North Carolina Theatre Conference, this production is expected to have brisk ticket sales, so reserve yours in advance for the best seats!

If you love music, the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Greensboro Opera Company will be happy to entertain you. If you’re a sports enthusiast, check out a hockey game at the Coliseum or some baseball at New Bridge Bank Park – home to the Greensboro Grasshoppers!

Visiting Greensboro, North Carolina is like taking a breath of fresh air. With beautiful outdoor areas, as well as carefully preserved historic institutions, the community offers a new type of city experience for visitors.
